It just takes one moment.

One conversation.

One connection point.

Back in 2018, our family still hadn’t found a church home. We had been trying another local church for a while, but it just didn’t feel right. With a toddler and a newborn—and no family nearby—it became easier to stay home. Sundays started to look like slow mornings in pajamas instead of worship together.

Then one day, another mom at my son’s daycare simply asked, “Hey, would you guys want to visit our church? We could grab lunch afterward, and the kids can play.”

That one invite changed everything.

It wasn’t fancy or formal—it was friendship. And just like that, we found community, purpose, and a place where we belonged.

Jesus Invited Himself In

That’s what makes the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19 so powerful. He wasn’t looking for church; he was just curious about who Jesus was. But before he could even reach Jesus, Jesus called him by name and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down because today it is necessary for me to stay at your house.” (Luke 19:5)

Jesus didn’t wait to be invited in—He invited Himself because an invitation has the power to change everything.

The Lies That Hold Us Back vs. The Truth That Shines Through

Lie #1: “It’s someone else’s job.”

We think inviting belongs to pastors or leaders.

Truth: “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14)

Every believer carries the responsibility—and the privilege—of sharing Jesus.

Lie #2: “I don’t know what to say.”

We fear saying the wrong thing.

Truth: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses…” (Acts 1:8)

You don’t need a perfect script—just a willing heart.

Lie #3: “They probably won’t come.”

We assume rejection before we even try.

Truth: “How can they believe without hearing about Him?” (Romans 10:14)

Our job is obedience. God takes care of the rest.

Lie #4: “Our church is already full.”

A full room can feel like a finished mission.

Truth: “There is more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who don’t need repentance.” (Luke 15:7)

Heaven isn’t full—and until everyone has heard, there’s always room for one more.

Why Would We Wait?

When we live for Jesus, we see the truth clearly: God is the only way.

So why would we wait?

Someone out there is waiting for your invite—someone like me in 2018, sitting at home, exhausted, hoping for connection. Your invite could be the moment that changes everything.

We Aren’t Promised Tomorrow

Every day is a new chance to invite someone closer to Jesus. Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment—because tomorrow isn’t promised.
