Rooted in the Word
A simple way to engage Scripture daily and grow deeper in your walk with God.
Rooted in God's Word
Being rooted in the Word means grounding our lives in Scripture—not just reading it, but allowing God’s Word to shape our hearts, thoughts, and actions. When we return to Scripture consistently, we grow in clarity, faith, and obedience.
Rooted in the Word is a Bible reading plan paired with the H.E.A.R. method, a simple journaling approach designed to help you slow down, engage meaningfully, and respond to what God is saying.
Understanding the H.E.A.R. Method
H.E.A.R. is a practical way to approach Scripture with intention. Each letter represents a step that helps move God’s Word from the page into everyday life.
Step 1
Highlight: Write down the verse or verses that stand out to you. Include the book, chapter, and verse.
Step 2
Explain: In your own words, explain what the passage means in its context. Ask: What is happening here? What is the author communicating?
Step 3
Apply: Consider how the Scripture applies to your life and circumstances today. What does this passage reveal about God, yourself, or how you should live?
Step 4
Respond: Respond in prayer or obedience. What is God inviting you to do, change, or pray because of what you’ve read?
Highlight the Passage
Begin by selecting the Scripture from the reading plan. Read slowly and prayerfully, paying attention to the verse or verses that stand out to you. Write them down and note why they caught your attention.
Explain the Meaning
Reflect on the highlighted verses and consider their context. In your own words, explain what the passage means and what the author is communicating. Focus on understanding the message God intended.
Apply to Your Life
Ask how this passage connects to your life today. What does it reveal about God, your heart, or the way you are living? Write down a personal application—something practical you can carry with you beyond this moment.
Respond Accordingly
Take time to respond to God through prayer or obedience. This may be a prayer of gratitude, repentance, or trust, or a specific step God is prompting you to take. Let your response flow naturally from what you’ve read.
I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me.
John 15:5 CSB
